ROH 10th Anniversary Show - Preview By Alex Kirkham

10 years ago, The Era of Honor began. If you don’t know by now, this weekend it’s the 10th Anniversary show for the company Ring Of Honor. Its hard to think, that its been a whole 10 years since the 1st Ring of Honor show in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the former home of ECW. It showcased raw wrestling skills and true determination and spirit, while bringing through the new young talent that fans wanted to see.

And after 10 successful years, ROH return to iPPV again this Sunday in the Hammerstein Ballroom for what is possibly the most stacked, mouth watering card the company has produced in years. Bringing together stalwarts of the company, returning stars and young talent, it promises not only to be one of the finest wrestling events of the year, but of the companies existence.

Headlining the show we have ROH World Champion Davey Richards & Kyle O'Reilly vs. "Die Hard" Eddie Edwards & Adam Cole. On paper this match has all the elements to be a stand up kick fest between 4 of the best talents within ROH. It pit’s the former members of the American Wolves and Future shock together in what will be a highlight of the card. Will it be a win for the World champion and his protégé or will his former American Wolves partner triumph?

Another match which promises so much on the night, is ROH outcast if you will Kevin Steen against Jimmy Jacobs in what will be a grudge match of epic proportions. Ever since Steen returned at Best In The World 2011, his attitude towards not just ROH, but to Steve Corino and Jimmy Jacobs has been deplorable at best. But at the 10th Anniversary show, Jacobs has his chance at revenge as he and Steen go toe to toe in a NO DQ match which promises fireworks. Can Jimmy Jacobs overpower the unstoppable Steen? Either way, this match will be off the chain.

As a fan of Tag Wrestling, this next match caught my eye as soon as it was announced on the ROH twitter feed. The Briscoe’s, will be defending their tag team titles, against the Young Bucks, whose return to the ROH tag division further proves that the company has the most dominant tag teams in the world today. Dem Boyz will bring their strength and power red neck kung-fu to the ring, while the Bucks will bring their array of high flying aerial based moves, in a match which promises to be up there for quality, passion and enthusiasm. Will the Bucks upset the champions, or will the Briscoe’s reign supreme?

Also on the card, fans will be treated to a rematch from Glory By Honor X, as Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team (Haas & Benjamin) clash with The All Night Express (Titus & King). As the former tag team champions clash with these up and comers, you have to think the winner here is next in line for a shot at Mark & Jay Briscoe should they defend their belts against The Young Bucks. Also in action, Jay Lethal defends his TV title against Tommaso Ciampa w/ The Embassy ringside. With Prince Nana ring side, anything could happen in this title match, so don’t be surprised if we see the belt change hands by the end of the night.

Last but not least, we come to the 2 special attraction matches of the night, 1 of which is the match im probably most excited to see. As an Amazing Red fan for quite some time, I am thrilled to see him back in ROH for the 10th Anniversary show. He will join TJ Perkins in a tag team match to take on Roderick Strong and Michael Elgin. Its both an honour and pleasure to be able to watch The Amazing Red in an ROH ring once again. Back in the early days of ROH, Red teamed with AJ Styles under the “Amazing Phenomenon” team name, winning the ROH tag titles. With his mesmerising mix of kicks and high flying acrobatics, I cant wait to see him team with TJ Perkins. Perkins of course, wrestled world wide under the mask of Puma, so he will be a more than perfect partner for Amazing Red. We of course cannot under estimate their opponents thought, as former ROH champion Roderick Strong and his hired muscle Elgin will be one hell of a team.

The other special attraction match, pit’s The Notorious 187 Homicide against ‘The Prodigy’ Mike Bennett. Again its great to see Homicide back in ROH, as he wrestled on the 1st Era Of Honor show back in 2002. His return to ROH, easily bolsters this already stacked iPPV card, and along with the likes of Corino & Amazing Red adds the classic company flavour to a tasty looking event.

Im literally buzzing for this ROH iPPV, more so than ive possibly ever been before for one of their events. It should be one of the standout moments of the wrestling year, and will define ROH as the top independent company they have grown into. Im sure you will all join me watching it on Sunday, to be able to say you’ve witnessed history. All the best ROH, here’s to an awesome 2012.
